In case you forgot, Shakira is a smart cookie:

For the past month, the Colombian pop star has been taking a class at the University of California, Los Angeles, called "Introduction to Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843."

"She went when she finished her tour, for the summer," Shakira's manager Fifi Kurzman told The Associated Press.

For years the 30-year-old has studied on her own, also taking tutorials on the history and languages of the countries she visits, Kurzman said.

Lecturer Robert Cleve said he hadn't known she was a celebrity during the course and was astonished to learn she was a pop star.

"She told me she was visiting from Colombia and that she was just doing this for her own enlightenment and enjoyment," Cleve said. "She looked like just an ordinary student. She wasn't flamboyant ... she didn't act like a big celebrity or anything."

Hard Rock International announced today that it is partnering with internationally-acclaimed artist Shakira in the fight to help the child victims of violence in Colombia by presenting $80,000 donation to her Pies Descalzos Foundation. Hard Rock International will honor Shakira by permanently showcasing select memorabilia from her 2005 "Tour of the Mongoose" in select Hard Rock Hotels and Cafes worldwide. Shakira is releasing two albums this year, the Spanish-language Fijación Oral Volumen 1, which came out in June and the English-language Oral Fixation Volume 2, which is due in November. The Colombian singer-songwriter says she plans to some day issue her most important "super production" in two parts: her children. Shakira told the Latin television program Don Francisco Presenta that she hopes to have two children -- a boy and a girl -- with her boyfriend of five years Antonio De La Rua. But, she says that Antonio sees things differently: "It makes him furious. He would like to have four or five and I tell him: 'not with me.'"

Shakira says that it was love at first sight when she saw Antonio dining four tables away from her at a restaurant. She says that they are great friends, but like all couples sometimes have arguments, adding, "If we didn't argue I'd be worried." Unfortunately the paparazzi always seem to catch them fighting, but she says they never get photographed making up.

Antonio De La Rua is the son of the former president of Argentina, Fernando De La Rua.

7/25/05 -- Don't Call Me Britney

From Contact Music:

Latina singer Shakira is horrified when fans mistake her for chart rival Britney Spears.

The Colombian star accepts both singers have blonde hair, but insists her taste in men is very different to Spears.

Spears is married to unemployed dancer Kevin Federline, while Shakira has been dating Antonio de la Rua - the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua - for several years.

Shakira says, "They ask me if I'm Britney Spears, 'Are you Britney? Can I have an autograph?'

"What a silly comparison: Shakira would never marry a back-up dancer."
